KnitML

The ultimate knitting geekness has to be KnitML. KnitML is a project to create an XML based markup language for knitting patterns.
The idea is to be able to use specific markup to write a pattern, which can then be rendered in different languages, formats (written or diagram), be validated and singed.
I love the idea of making the data portable to be used in a variety of ways, especially if that involves knitting patterns. As with any other XML format, it just opens so many possibilities to the use of such data.
Can you imagine creating a program that reads the KnitML, and then creates a 3D model of it? Better yet, you could potentially make modification to such pattern, and see the modifications modeled before having to do all that knitting.
There’s a long way to go before that, but creating the standard is the first step. I love geeks.
